Lord of the Rings
Lords
of Misrule by fabula rasa
Ah, Legolas and Gimli the way it should be done, with prickly misunderstandings
and hot hot dwarf/elf sex. Lovely.
Webs
by Roz Kaveney
An utterly chilling AU Shelob story
that will keep you awake at night. There is not a single wasted word here.
Brilliant stuff.
Sky
As Grey As Your Heart by Afrai
An uncertain Legolas waits for Gimli
to join him at the Grey Havens. Subtle, exquisite, in character.
A
Night at Edoras by Siberia
Faramir's used to coming in second,
so it shouldn't bother him, but it does. Lovely Faramir/Éowyn story.
Nor
Iron Bars a Cage by Fay Jay
Gríma fic that gets right
into his head and his obsession with Éowyn, which leads to his obsession
with power. Or possibly it's the other way round. Sharp and evocative.
I went, "Yes!" when I read it - that's how dead on accurate the characterization
feels to me.
Beautiful
by Celli Lane
Legolas learns to see with more
than Elvish eyes. Even if you don't buy the Legolas/Gimli, this story works,
because it gets right into Legolas' head and his changing notions of what
beauty is.
Heaven
Dissolvéd So by Victoria P.
Legolas tries to grasp the meaning
of Aragorn's apparent death. Eowyn comforts him. I want to believe this
actually happened in the movie, because it really works for the characters
in that moment.
The
Last Grey Ship by ErinRua
The Fellowship is passing, and Legolas
and Gimli attend one last parting. Lovely, sad story of the end of their
time in Middle-earth.
Legolas
Shall Be for the Elves by Teanna
So why *did* Elrond send Legolas
with the Fellowship instead of Glorfindel? This is a lovely explanation,
and it includes the amazing pie-plate frisbee scene.
Refraction
by Kielle
The truth behind the gentle myth
that Finduilas, wife of Denethor, pined away for the sea. Chilling and
sad, and it makes so much *sense*. I actually felt bad for Denethor, which
is a first.
Small
Soldiers by Cori Lannam
Boromir and Faramir on the occasion
of their mother's death. Beautiful and sad and perfectly in character.
You can see the men they will become in this story of them as little boys.
The
Care and Feeding of Hobbits by Baylor.
Boromir learns about Hobbits in
these beautiful slice-of-life stories that capture the characters at their
most charming and vulnerable.
Mother
of Horses by hossgal
Eomer has the Ring, and plans to
restore Rohan to her former glory. Chilling.
Not
Willingly Unlock by Isos Arei
This is a fic about words, about
language and I'm at a loss for words. Exquisite, stunning, evocative, well-wrought
- just a beautiful telling of the love story of Legolas and Gimli.
Parental
Consent by Honesty
*dies laughing* Okay, the dialogue
is a little too colloquial, but this is too funny for me to care. Legolas
and Gimli tell their fathers about their relationship. Neither parent is
happy with the lover his son has chosen, and this is a hilarious look at
what would happen when they find out.
Repairs
by Isabeau of Greenlea
Gimli repairs the notch in his axe
after Helm's Deep, and meditates on the things he's seen. Just a lovely
piece of characterization and writing.
Shines
Like Hope by Celli
Beautiful Legolas POV on his relationship
with Aragorn over the years.
Thrown
by Halrloprillalar
Legolas/Gimli the way it should
be done. Delicate, sly, sweet and loving.
She
Follows by Victoria P.
I'm not normally a fan of Tolkien
PWPs, but Victoria somehow manages to walk the fine line between following
the spirit of the books, but not squicking me out. No elfhoods here, no
sirree. All that and an Eowyn characterization that rings true.
Bagenders
by Lady Alyssa and Random Dent
"He Died With The One Ring In His
Hand?" Granted immortality, the Fellowship tool around for a few
millennia before ending up in a squalid sharehouse in Britain. Frodo
has occasional psychotic episodes, Aragorn has an equally-immortal ex-wife,
and Gandalf has a ... Smell. And they all spend far too much time
in the sideboard. Funny enough that it's worth overlooking the typos.
